Gold DofE Training Expeditions
Four Year 12 students from Sir John Talbot’s School recently headed for the Yorkshire Dales to take part in a Gold DofE training expedition and found themselves once more battling against the elements despite the springtime scheduling.
Emily Bond, Jess Furber, Alex Mellor and Brett Llewellyn – for whom there has been snow on every single DofE trip they have taken part in – braved the British weather yet against, this time amidst the beautiful countryside of Wensleydale and Swaledale. And while the sun shone on the first couple of days, the expedition did not disappoint, providing a good helping of frost and snow once night fell.
Even the sunny days were numbered. The final day’s walking proved very challenging, with the route taking them over Great Shunner Fell (716m). Heavy rain and a low cloud base gave visibility of around 10 metres, but the group navigated extremely well and successfully completed the expedition.
