New Governing Body Announced
On Monday 22nd September, the newly appointed Governors of Sir John Talbot’s School in Whitchurch held their first full governors meeting. The Chair of Governors, Bob Pearson, described the atmosphere as “electric” commenting that, “it is great to be part of a team who have the future of the school totally at heart”. The meeting preceded the school’s Open Evening on 25th September, which saw record numbers of prospective parents and students attending.
The new Chair of Governors has ambitious plans for the school and is committed to “ensuring Sir John Talbot’s School is the number one school of choice for the Whitchurch area”. The official appointment of Mr David O’Toole to the position of Headteacher begun the process of formulating the new management structure and the school is now delighted to announce their new Governing Body, which is made up of eight dedicated, professional, local people, who bring with them a range of skills and a commitment to the future success of the school.
Headteacher, David O’Toole, is delighted with the appointment of the new governing body and comments, “We have had a fantastic start to the new school year with incredible support from our local community. The new governing body for Sir John Talbot’s is truly representative of the local community. Each of the governors has already demonstrated enormous enthusiasm and a clear determination to ensure standards are kept high at the school and are as ambitious as I am in making this a school in which every child can achieve their highest potential”.
The new Governing Body consists of the following individuals:

• Cllr. Peggy Mullock (Community Governor)
• Tracey Williams (Parent Governor)
Mr Bob Pearson commented, “We really appreciate the support our parents have given to the school over recent times, trusting us with the educational, social and spiritual needs of their children. We want to extend our circle and invite any parent of any child in the Whitchurch area to come and see us as we are, come during the day with or without your child and see what is happening to the school on your doorstep. I know that you will see good quality teaching and learning in a safe and happy school”.
Bob Pearson will be available in the school’s main hall from 4.00 pm every Thursday afternoon until 5.30pm during October. He adds, “I would be pleased to meet any parent, whether with children in the school or not, to share your thoughts and views on the school, moving forward”.

Bob Pearson (Chair)
Bob is one of the Marches Academy Trust members and Directors and has been Vice Chair of The Marches School Governing body for approximately 20 years.
Libby Dudleston (Parent Governor)
Already very active in the school helping to raise funds, but also teaches post 16, bringing a wide breadth of expertise.
Alex Fry (Community Governor)
With children at the school already and one more to come, Alex has a vested interest in the school’s success. Highly qualified in the technology field and running his own business, he also Chairs the local Hockey Club, and is partly responsible for bringing together all the local sports clubs in an effort to collectively progress a local, joint approach to sport, using the facilities at the school.
Diane Gowen (Trustee Governor)
Former Chair of Governors, former Town Mayor and Chair of the Foundation of Trustees.
Tracey Williams (Parent Governor)
Currently Finance Manager at a cross phase school in Telford and is on the governing body at the local junior school, her financial expertise will underpin all commercial dealings.
Linda Grocott (Community Governor)
Managing Director of local business Grocontinental (largest employer in Whitchurch) who are one of the UK’s leading international and distribution storage companies. Within the company Linda has specific responsibility for human resources, finance, marketing, IT and administration.
Catriona McCausland (Staff Governor)
Director of Communications Faculty since April 2014. Teacher of English (joined SJT in January 2013).
Cllr. Peggy Mullock (Community Governor)
Former Town Mayor, children and grandchildren attended SJT. On numerous local committees, former member of IEB. Governor at Whitchurch Junior and Infant schools. Very supportive of all school events. Well respected in the community.
