Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

For many years we have actively encouraged students to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and we are very fortunate to have a number of staff qualified to lead the students to successful accreditation.

Participants will be able to work towards achieving their Bronze award in Year 9, their Silver Award in Year 10 and their Gold Award in the Sixth Form.  They will complete a personal programme of activities, which include:

  • Volunteering – helping someone, the community or the environment
  • Physical – becoming active and fitter through sport, dance or fitness activities
  • Skills – developing existing talents or trying something new
  • Expedition – planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey
  • Residential (Gold only) – staying and working away from home as part of a team

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) provides students with a distinct opportunity to develop effective leadership skills, team building, responsibility, perseverance, resilience, and endurance. They will make new friends and create memories which will last a lifetime. Most of all it is fun and enjoyable.

Annually we hold a DofE celebration evening for students completing their ‘Bronze’ and ‘Silver’ awards.

In 2022 we were honoured to have the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire present the students with their certificate and badges.

If the participants complete their Gold Award, they will also have an opportunity to go to Buckingham Palace to celebrate their achievement.  We are very pleased to say that over the years many of our students have attended the palace garden parties, meeting the Duke of Edinburgh, and in latter years Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex and famous celebrities.
