Welcome to Sir John Talbot’s Sixth Form. Our 16-19 provision is designed to support our young people achieve their full potential and develop a lifelong thirst for knowledge. We understand that the transition from studying GCSEs to A Levels can be a challenging, yet rewarding one. Our welcoming and safe Sixth Form environment provides a supportive platform which enables students to flourish and achieve their future aspirations with the continuation of ‘achievement through caring’.
We have a strong track record of students securing their first-choice destinations, from leading universities to highly competitive apprenticeships, which is a testament to the expert teaching of our staff and the hard work of our students. In our 2023 Ofsted Report, it was noted that ‘teachers are knowledgeable about their subjects. As a result, learning is progressive and builds on what students can already do, including in the sixth form.’
Our young people are well supported to become ambitious and curious learners, who extend their knowledge and experiences beyond the classroom. As noted by Ofsted, Personal Development across the school is Outstanding, where ‘sixth-form students learn first-aid skills’ and ‘benefit from work experience related to their interests.’ Our Year 12 work experience programme enhances our students’ employabilty skills and helps them better understand their next steps to future success. We also work with experienced careers advisors and have a highly experienced tutor team who work closely with each student to provide bespoke support and careers guidance.
Each and every young person in our care is valued, listened to and championed. Student voice plays a vital role in our Sixth Form and we encourage all students to show empathy and compassion to others, throughout the school. Our Key Stage 5 curriculum values the importance of positive relationships, good health and wellbeing and how to go on to be responsible members of society. Our students are role models to their younger peers in the school and demonstrate excellence and integrity through their words and actions.
