The Friends of Sir John Talbot’s School (FOTS) was established in the Autumn Term by a dedicated group of staff and parents. Their charitable mission is to aid the school in acquiring essential facilities, equipment, and opportunities that enhance the education, curriculum, enrichment, and experiences of students attending Sir John Talbot’s through various fundraising initiatives. Activities to date have included the Great SJT Bake Off, the Christmas Bingo, and a Bake Sale, all of which have contributed to raising over £1250. These funds have already begun to support events including the Mental Health Awareness week that took place in February 2024.

We have worked hard to develop our Parent Forums. Our engagement with families has provided us with useful feedback to inform our ongoing strategic development, and has given us the chance to explain and communicate key areas in an open and productive way. At times, we have been able to respond immediately to concerns e.g., uniform and logistics at lunchtime. We plan to further the reach of these events and will be looking to implement a more targeted plan moving forward so that all voices are heard.

We are continuing to build our relationships with local organisations within the community such as Poetry Whitchurch, who have supported our curriculum by running poetry workshops, and who have helped our students to engage in creative writing classes at the prestigious Arvon Writers Retreat The Hurst in Craven Arms.

Our partnership with a number  of prominent companies has provided exciting opportunities for students, who have been able to access valuable work experience opportunities with global businesses as well as attend alternative provision with external providers including Fordhall Farm.
