Home Learning

Where is home learning set at SJT?

Home learning is set on Teams via ‘assignments’. Students also record when a task is set with the deadline in their planner.

How can I support my child with home learning?

  1. By regularly monitoring their home learning either through their log in to Teams, or by reviewing their planner.
  2. Talking about tasks through book looks with your child(ren).
  3. By encouraging your child(ren) to visit our library regularly to ensure they are always reading for pleasure.

How can my child access a computer or attend Homework Club?

Visiting the library at break, lunch time or after school where there is an ICT suite that all students have access to.

All KS3 home learning tasks at Sir John Talbot’s School will:

There will be one task set weekly from English/Maths.

There will be 2-3 tasks per half term from all other subjects.

In addition to the independent tasks above, we place high value on reading for pleasure and would encourage all pupils to read for pleasure at home. As a ‘reading multi-academy trust’, we all read together during Reading Time but the power of reading is not to be underestimated and improving reading skills can have a huge impact on overall progress. We recommend that additional reading takes place every evening for at least 15 minutes for all of our pupils.

All KS4/5 home learning tasks at Sir John Talbot’s School will:

Where students take a practical subject where independent coursework makes up a component of the course this will be completed alongside the above tasks.

There will be at least one task set weekly from all subjects.

For KS5 this is in addition to independent study time tasks.
