Success at VEX IQ Challenge

VEX IQ Challenge Squared Away is played on a 4’x8’ rectangular field. Two robots compete in the Teamwork Challenge as an alliance in 60 second long teamwork matches, working collaboratively to score points.

Teams also compete in the Robot Skills Challenge where one robot takes the field to score as many points as possible. These matches consist of Driving Skills Matches, which are entirely driver controlled, and Programming Skills Matches, they are autonomous with limited human interaction.

This year Sir John Talbot’s School entered three teams into the first round held at Burton Borough School in Newport. On arrival, the students were apprehensive as the other teams were older, but we did not let this get in the way. With great focus, determination and teamwork we were able to bring all three trophies home. Sir John Talbot’s are now through to the Nationals, taking place in Telford later in the year!

The teams comprised of the following students:  Cameron Andrews, Natasha Battye, Dylan Bell, Daniel Bridge, Evan Davies, Katie Evans, Cameron Fisher, William Lowe, Jonathan Macbean, Harry Mogridge, Oscar Pateman, William Plater, Joshua Reeves, Kairi Roberts, Paulina Sala, James Sanderson, Louis Smith and Jack Warner – well done all!
