Collective Celebration as Teachers and Students Achieve Remarkable GCSE Results

A week on from receiving incredible A Level results, Sir John Talbot’s School is again celebrating impressive GCSE results.

Core subjects of English, Maths and Science have gained 100% pass grades with 70% of all grades being at Grade 4 and above.  Subject specialists have seen incredible achievements with 20% of grades in English and 15% in Maths at Grade 7 to 9.

Since 2014, Sir John Talbot’s School has gone from strength to strength and is opening its doors to the largest Year 7 and 12 cohorts since becoming an academy as part of the Marches Academy Trust.

A number of younger students took part in this year’s GCSEs with two-thirds of our year 10 students obtaining grades 4-9 in English Literature. In addition, Year 9 students took part in their Languages GCSE achieving top marks, which sets them well on the road to starting their other GCSE subjects in September.

Student Benedict Craig commented: “I am really happy with my results, I have exceeded what I was expecting. I have worked hard so it is great to see the hard work pay off. I am staying at the Sir John Talbot’s Sixth Form to study my A levels as I would like to be a chemist.”

Fellow student William Dudleston added: “I am really happy – I am so pleased with my results. I am going to do my A levels in Maths and Science but still not quite sure what I want to do as a career.”

Student Emily Bonet-Wheatley, who has also received her results, commented: “Wow! I am so shocked but so happy. This is amazing. I have done way better than I thought I would.”

Headteacher of Sir John Talbot’s School, David O’Toole added: “This years’ fantastic GCSE results are a testament to the incredible hard work of our students and the support of our dedicated team of subject specialists, parents and carers. We would like to pass on our congratulations to our GCSE students for their fantastic results and wish them every success for the future; seeing many stay to continue their education at our Sixth Form.”
